Reel in a comfortable, nature-focused lifestyle against an irresistible backdrop of South Florida's natural beauty as you find a HOME within the residential oasis of Miami Gardens, a serene community with boundless culture and recreational opportunities!

Feast your eyes on Miami Gardens, an unparalleled suburbia known as Miami-Dade's third-largest city and host to the famous Miami Dolphins, occupying 20 square miles between Fort Lauderdale and Miami, accessible from all major highways.

Offering serene suburban living coupled with the convenience of city-like amenities, Miami Gardens is revered as a sanctuary from Miami's  boisterous nightlife and buzzing urban avenues, one with a seamless blend of creature comforts, game-changing redevelopments, lush nature, and premium  real estate.

A world rich in culture and spirit set against the backdrop of South Florida's natural allure — it's easy to see why Miami Gardens has grown into a choice residential paradise, ranked among the TOP communities to live, work, and play along the outskirts of Miami!

So, if you're longing to be part of the 110,497 people who've been "hooked" by Miami Garden's small-town charm or are already slowly transitioning to its simple, nature-focused lifestyle, congratulations!

Moving to a new city may be a feat to conquer, but with the RIGHT guide, you'll get through it the quickest and smoothest way possible!

Here are 7 things you need to do IMMEDIATELY when moving to Miami Gardens.

     (1)

Rounding Up The Basics Of Suburbia: Electricity, Natural Gas, And Water in Miami Gardens

The suburban peeps and city folks may be living in two DIFFERENT worlds, but they all have ONE thing in common.

The need for UTILITIES to survive!

So, if you're moving to Miami Gardens soon, you'll want to have your essentials sorted before you haul the rest of your home into your NEW Miami Gardens address!

    Don't know where to start?

    Well, that's why I'm here!

To light up your home, create or log in to your existing account at the  Florida Power & Light Company (FPL)  website and apply for service at your new address, new or otherwise.

New account holders need to submit their Social Security, Driver's License, Social Insurance, or Tax ID number, the new service address, and the connection date, and existing FPL customers only need to advise the disconnection date (old address), re-connection date,  and complete service address for a service transfer.

A deposit of $25 (minimum) and other initial set-up fees may be charged upfront, whether you're a new or existing customer.

Meanwhile, if you prefer using a natural gas service, hook up with  TECO Peoples Gas .

All you need to do is submit the necessary IDs and connection date (new customer) or advise the disconnection date, the complete address of your new home, and your preferred service transfer date (existing customer).

Your deposit fees may be based on the home's square footage or equal to twice the average monthly bill, and you may need to settle a connection fee before the service connection.

And that's a wrap — your water and sewer services will be provided by the City of Miami Gardens, so you should have running water as soon as you move into your new address.

For concerns, questions, and requests about your water and sewer services, visit the  City of Miami Gardens Online Servic e s  website to know more.

     (2)

Connected In The Outskirts?: Transcending The Expectations Of Suburban Living

Are you going into full-on panic mode just thinking of losing your beloved internet and cable services?

Take a breath — none of these "connections" will be sacrificed just because you're moving to the suburbs!

In fact, you might even be looking at an upgrade, thanks to esteemed service providers  Comcast Xfinity , and   AT&T !

So, once you have a provider and bundle in mind, apply for a new service by submitting your complete address and proper IDs online or in person at the nearest store, or if you're an existing Comcast or AT&T customer, request for a service transfer as soon as you settle any remaining balance on your account!

You'll also want to ask your provider if you need to settle deposits, activation/installation, and equipment rental fees upfront to have enough cash on hand.

Otherwise, don't be surprised if these charges are reflected on your first bill.

     (3)

Settling In With The Locals: The "Stamp Of Approval" In Miami Gardens

Hurray for affordable Miami Gardens homes!

Now that you're finally free from renting or paying a high mortgage in another state (or country!), it's time to make your "liberation" official by getting yourself your very own Florida ID!

The quickest and most important one to get?

A Florida driver's license, of course!

Aside from being a REQUIREMENT within 30 days of establishing residence, your Florida driver's license is your "green light" to drive on all Florida roads, so it'll be hitting THREE birds with one stone... err... card!

So, to get one, visit the nearest  Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV)  or any local office offering driver's license services and submit the necessary documents.

Click on the applicable residency status to know which documents to have on hand when you apply:

    •  U.S Citizen
    • Immigrant
    • Non-Immigrant
    •  Canadian

The initial Florida Class E license, including a learner's permit, is $48.00, a commercial driver's license (Class A) is $75.00, and an ID Card fee is $25.00.

For a complete list of driver's license fees,  click here.

Don't forget to get insurance to title and register your vehicle(s) within ten (10) days of establishing residency!

Meanwhile, if you already have a Florida driver's license, notify the DMV of your new address for an updated driver's license to avoid run-ins with the law.

Usually, those with a current or previous driver's license from another state, country, or jurisdiction don't have to take Drug and Alcohol courses, Class E Knowledge exams, and the Florida Driving tests, but the Vision and Hearing test is mandatory!

     (4)

Creating Better Futures: All The Top Miami Garden Schools In A Nutshell

Moving to Miami Gardens sans any information on the schools near your area?

    Don't worry, I got you!

You see, finding a Miami Gardens school for your child isn't as difficult as what you'd expect from a suburb.

And why is that you ask?

Well, let's just say this gorgeous suburban paradise is brimming with premium educational institutions from elementary to senior high!

Norwood Elementary School, Scott Lake Elementary School, Beacon Hill Preparatory School, TRU Prep Academy, MLMPI Preparatory Academy #6, and more — you're looking at a massive collection of private, public, and charter schools in Miami Gardens!

Standing Up For Tomorrow: Creating A Better Miami Gardens

    What?

    A legal-age U.S. citizen without voter registration?

Now that you're moving to Miami Gardens, not doing something about your little "situation" is unacceptable!

Aside from being one of the most important civic duties, exercising your right to vote gives you a voice that COUNTS, not just within your community but also in your new city and the entire country!

To put it simply, you can't get caught without voter registration!

So, if you're over 18 and a United States Citizen who meets all the requirements to become a registered voter (but still isn't one), submit your application with the proper IDs and documents through the  Florida Department of State  or the  Miami-Dade County Elections Department  online, by mail, or in person at the Elections Department or any Elections Branch office!

For other legal forms of identification and supplementary requirements,  c lick here.

Any current and valid identifications with a photograph and signature (e.g., Florida Driver's License, United States passport, etc.) will do, so make your voter registration a priority as soon as you settle into your new Miami Gardens home!

     (6)

Coloring Miami Gardens Green: The Locals' Efforts In Preserving Miami Gardens

All those "greens" your eyes can reach within the perimeters of Miami Gardens?

It can all wither away if locals don't follow Miami Garden's rules and regulations on proper recycling and waste disposal!

So, as a new resident, take the time to familiarize yourself with Miami Gardens' established recycling and waste management programs to EARN your spot within your new community!

To give you an idea, here are the  different schedules for solid waste, "bulky" garbage, and recyclables, as advised by the Miami Gardens Public Works Department, in cooperation with the City of Miami Solid Waste Department:

    •  Garbage & Trash collection (twice a week)
    • Free recycling collection (every other week)
    •  Free "Bulky" trash collection (twice a year, by appointment)

Failure to follow these waste management codes will result in a fine or arrest.

For detailed information about schedules and fees in your area, visit the  Miami Gardens Public Works Department   website, the  City of Miami Solid Waste Department , or check with your HOA.
