Transform your lifestyle into one that seamlessly pairs suburban comfort with rapid developments, cultural diversity, and Metropolitan conveniences when you become part of the family-oriented community of West Miami, one of Miami-Dade County's smallest cities!
Standing at three-quarters of a square mile, assuming a charming location between Tamiami Trail and Coral Way, West Miami remains one of Miami-Dade's smallest cities, surrounded by much larger neighbors like Miami Beach to the east and Hialeah and Coral Gables to the north and south, respectively.
Albeit only 0.7 miles, its tiny size doesn't define the quality of life in West Miami.
In fact, one can say West Miami punches above its weight in terms of rapid community developments and improvements, all geared to provide residents a BETTER living experience and tourists an unforgettable time in the city, with its sidewalk replacements, new parking spaces, and tree beautification schemes alongside access to lush neighborhood parks, world-class cuisines, diverse culture, and entertainment.
Not to mention West Miami's ideal position near several bustling Miami communities, where the highlights of Magic City are moments away!
And if you add West Miami's tightly-weaved community, walkability, select collection of real estate, and premium education, you can see why it's among Miami's top-rated neighborhoods, especially for local families who look for a more peaceful suburban atmosphere without sacrificing the advantages of urban amenities!
So, if you're leaving city life to experience West Miami's urban-suburban lifestyle and are currently in transition, let this guide help you turn your relocation into an adventure you'll enjoy as you immerse into the West Miami community as smoothly and stress-free as possible!
Here are 7 things you need to do IMMEDIATELY when moving to West Miami.
Growing Roots In A Tightly-Knit Community With Big City Access: Your West Miami Indispensables
Relocation involves numerous errands; one thing on top of everyone's list is setting up utilities.
And if you're still arranging yours, let me get the ball rolling by giving you a step-by-step guide on getting your electricity, potable water, and natural gas service running before your big move!
To activate your West Miami electricity, create or log in to your existing account at the Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) website and apply for service at your new address.
New customers will need to submit their Social Security, Driver's License, Social Insurance, or Tax ID number, the new service address, and the connection date, and existing FPL customers only need to advise disconnection date (old address), re-connection date, and complete service address!
There may also be a deposit of $25 (minimum) and other initial set-up fees upfront, whether you're a new or existing customer.
Another utility you'll want to arrange if you prefer cooking 'au naturel,' a.k.a. via natural gas, is your natural gas service care of Florida City Gas (FCG) !
After confirming availability, you may submit the necessary IDs and connection date (new customer) or advise the disconnection date, the complete address of your new home, and your preferred service transfer date (existing customer).
The deposit fees may be based on your home's square footage or equal to twice the average monthly bill, and you may need to settle a connection fee before service starts.
Last but not least is checking for water and sewer availability on the Miami-Dade Water & Sewer website.
Once confirmed, new customers must create an online account and deposit $50 for water, $50 for sewer, and a non-refundable $45 connection fee, and existing owners must also settle any outstanding balance before service transfer.

Needs VS. Wants: A Modern-Age Homeowner's Essentials
Starting your life in a new city may mean scrapping unnecessary subscriptions and services.
However, if there are two things a homeowner CAN'T live without, especially in today's modern age, these are reliable internet and cable TV services!
Of course, that's if you plan on staying "connected" to the world outside your suburban city!
So, if you've yet to find a "worthy" provider for your home internet and cable TV, seek help from Comcast Xfinity and AT&T !
Once you're through assessing your household's usage and entertainment needs, apply for new service by submitting your complete address and proper IDs online or in person at the nearest store, or if you're an existing Comcast or AT&T customer, request a service transfer as soon as you settle any remaining balance on your account!
It's also best to ask your provider if you need to settle deposits, activation/installation, and equipment rental fees upfront.
Otherwise, you'll find those charges on your first bill.

A Formal Welcome To The West Miami Community: The ID That Solves All Your Miscellaneous Errands
Are you still stuck figuring out how to go about your West Miami relocation?
One thing's for sure — all that hard work and research will be for nothing without an official Florida ID!
How can you process anything without one?
So, if you're looking for the quickest ID to secure in Florida, start applying for a Florida driver's license!
It's not just a REQUIREMENT within 30 days of establishing residency but also your 'golden ticket' to getting anything done for your relocation — utilities, services, paperwork, documents, the works!
Not to mention that a Florida driver's license is also A MUST to drive around Florida!
So, to get your hands on one, visit the nearest Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) or any local office offering driver's license services to submit the necessary documents.
Click on the applicable residency status to know which documents to have on hand when you apply:
The initial Florida Class E license, including a learner's permit, is $48.00, a commercial driver's license (Class A) is $75.00, and an ID Card fee is $25.00.
For a complete list of driver's license fees, click here.
Applicants with a current or previous driver's license from another state, country, or jurisdiction need not take the Drug and Alcohol courses, Class E Knowledge exam, and Florida Driving tests.
However, the Vision and Hearing test is still a must!
Meanwhile, if you have an existing Florida driver's license, notify the DMV of your new address for an updated driver's license or suffer the consequences!
You'll also need insurance to title and register your vehicle(s) within ten (10) days of establishing residency.

Aiding Your New Community: The Advantages Of A Registered Voter In West Miami
If this is not your first rodeo in relocation, especially moving to a new country, you already know the importance of voter registration.
Aside from being a liberty that every citizen is privy to, voting is a civic duty and your only way to have a "say" in your new community.
And pretty much the same thing goes in West Miami!
So, if you've recently moved to the U.S. or are yet to become a registered voter, become election-ready this 2024 by submitting your application with the proper IDs and documents through the Florida Department of State or the Miami-Dade County Elections Department online, by mail, or in person at the Elections Department or any Elections Branch office!
However, ensure you're a United States citizen over 18 who meets all the requirements before you do, otherwise, your application won't push through!
For additional information, any current and valid identification with a photograph and signature (e.g., Florida Driver's License, United States passport, etc.) will be accepted.
