Discover the EQUILIBRIUM between serene suburban living and Miami's vibrant culture as you immerse into the warm, tight-knit community of Kendall, a sprawling residential oasis defined by a leisure-focused lifestyle and its ambiguous identity!

Amidst Miami's bustling avenues and tourist-ridden cities is the peaceful suburban paradise of Kendall, a census-designated area bordered west by West Kendall, South Miami, and Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay to its east, Sunset, and Glenvar Heights to the north, and Palmetto Estates and Richmond Heights to its south.

Located less than 20 miles away from the heart of Downtown Miami, Kendall perfects the coveted "combination" of relaxation and luxury, pairing a more slow-paced lifestyle with its treasure trove of hotels, shopping spots, restaurants, and entertainment destinations, bringing rural living (at least, in Kendall) to the NEXT LEVEL, attracting anyone looking for a break from city life WITHOUT sacrificing the creature conveniences they've come to know!

In fact, from its reputation as a "hidden gem," Kendall has grown into one of the BEST places to live in Miami-Dade County, ranking up with famous suburbs like Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, Pinecrest, Ponce Davis, High Pines, and South Miami, albeit a more low-cost version, thanks to its plethora of affordable real estate, schools, and daily essentials!

So, if you're looking to pack up and move to a burgeoning suburb focused on the simple joys of living or have already started the transition, congratulations and good luck with your exciting Kendall journey!

To help you ease into your new community, I'll guide you through this "grueling" process, starting with covering the ESSENTIALS!

Here are 7 things you need to do IMMEDIATELY when moving to Kendall.

(1)

Starting Your Kendall Journey STRONG: "Lighting Up" Your Kendall Home

Since this is NOT your first rodeo on owning or renting a home (unless it is), you already know that a journey ALWAYS starts with the essentials.

And, in terms of activating your new Kendall home, it's best to sort out the utilities, which basically means applying for electricity, water, and gas services!

Let me tell you, the whole process is TOO EASY that you won't even break a sweat!

First, apply for electricity by creating or logging in to your existing account at the Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) website and apply for service at your new address.

New account holders need to submit their Social Security, Driver's License, Social Insurance, or Tax ID number, the new service address, and connection date, while existing FPL customers only need to advise disconnection date (old address), re-connection date,  and complete service address for a service transfer.

Before service connection, a deposit of $25 (minimum) and other initial set-up fees may be charged upfront, whether you're a new or existing customer.

Next on the list is hooking up natural gas service with  TECO Peoples Gas or Florida City Gas (FCG).

After confirming availability, submit the necessary IDs and connection date (new customer) or advise the disconnection date, the complete address of your new home, and your preferred service transfer date (existing customer).

Your deposit fees may be based on the home's square footage or equal to twice the average monthly bill, and you may need to settle a connection fee before the service connection.

To conclude your errands, check for water and sewer availability on the Miami-Dade Water & Sewer website.

Once confirmed, new customers must create an online account and deposit $50 for water, $50 for sewer, and a non-refundable $45 connection fee, and existing owners must also settle any outstanding balance before service transfer.

Answering The Need For Technology: Where To Find The Best Internet-Cable Packages In Kendall

Ah, yes, the perks of living in the modern era.

Thanks to the world of Technology, you'll never miss an episode of your favorite TV show or your weekly chit-chat with your bestie!

So, to ensure stable connectivity inside your Kendall home, remember to request a high-speed internet service and a premium cable package from reliable providers like Comcast Xfinity and AT&T!

Once you've settled on a provider and a competitive bundle, apply for a new service by submitting your complete address and proper IDs online or in person at the nearest store, or if you're an existing Comcast or AT&T customer, request a service transfer after paying any remaining balance on your account!

Don't forget to ask your provider for any deposits, activation/installation, and equipment rental fees upfront to avoid unexpected payables.

Otherwise, all these may reflect on your first bill.

Embarking On A New Adventure: Why You NEED To Have A Florida Driver's License

Crossing state lines or moving from an entirely different continent?

Before you settle into your new Kendall home, remember to get a Florida driver's license!

Aside from being a REQUIREMENT within 30 days of establishing residency, your Florida driver's license is a quick and easy way to make your Floridian identity official and your "go-signal" to drive on all Florida roads!

To get your first Florida ID, visit the nearest Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) or any local office offering driver's license services and submit the necessary documents.

Click on the applicable residency status to know which documents to have on hand when you apply:

The initial Florida Class E license, including a learner's permit, is $48.00, a commercial driver's license (Class A) is $75.00, and an ID Card fee is $25.00.

For a complete list of driver's license fees, click here.

You'll also need insurance to title and register your vehicle(s) within ten (10) days of establishing residency.

Side note: If you have a current or previous driver's license from another state, country, or jurisdiction, the Drug and Alcohol courses, Class E Knowledge exam, and Florida Driving test may not be mandatory.

However, the Vision and Hearing test is still a must!

You'll also need to notify the DMV of your new address for an updated driver's license if you already have a Florida driver's license.

First on your agenda as an honorary Kendall resident — getting a voter registration!

If you already have one, congratulations on upholding your civic duty as a United States citizen!

But for those moving to Kendall as an unregistered voter, you'll want to change that ASAP, especially if you're set on being part of the CHANGE and PROGRESS of your new community and the entire country!

So, for United States citizens over 18 who meet all the requirements to become a registered voter, submit an application with the proper IDs and documents through the Florida Department of State or the Miami-Dade County Elections Department online, by mail, or in person at the Elections Department or any Elections Branch office!

For reference, any current and valid identifications with a photograph and signature (e.g., Florida Driver's License, United States passport, etc.) will help approve your application, so don't get caught without one when you visit!
