Smoothly navigate through life amidst the fast-paced lifestyle and pulsating energy of Downtown Miami, the heart of commerce, culture, dining, arts, and non-stop entertainment in Magic City!

Peruse through the broad avenues of Downtown Miami, otherwise known as Miami's Central Business District, an iconic waterfront neighborhood divided by the Miami River and bordered by Midtown (Edgewater and Wynwood) to the north, Biscayne Bay to the east, Civic Center and Overtown to the west, and Coconut Grove to the south.

Despite being the core of the Metro, Downtown Miami pairs its highly urbanized ambiance with Mother Nature's allure, its perimeter bordered by massive marinas and several off-shore islands (natural and otherwise) and backed by architecturally impressive towering buildings and sweeping views of the Bay — truly a sight to behold!

But amidst its explosion of trendy new bars, restaurants, hotels, shopping, business opportunities, and irresistible charm with tourists lies another side of Downtown Miami, one that's among Miami's oldest urban neighborhoods, welcoming those who seek  a fast-paced Metropolitan lifestyle  paired with a 'new-old' vibe!

    Yes, you read it right!

As much as it is a coveted tourist destination, Downtown Miami is also a premium residential community boasting a new-aged lineup of new-build condos showcasing Miami's urbanity — with an irresistible waterfront view to match!

So, if you've chosen to dive into Downtown Miami's revered urban way of life, congratulations!

It's time to buckle up and be ready to race through life in the city!

Here are 7 things you need to do IMMEDIATELY when moving to Downtown Miami.

     (1)

Gearing Up For A New Way Of Life: Setting Up The Core Of Your Downtown Miami Home

Gear up for Downtown Miami's fast-paced lifestyle by equipping your home with essentials!

If you haven't sorted out your utilities yet, you'll be happy to know you can have everything set up with a flick of a finger, or in this case, the click of a mouse!

To set up your electricity, create or log in to your existing account at the  Florida Power & Light Company (FPL)  website and apply for service at your new Downtown Miami address.

If you're a new customer, you'll need to submit your Social Security, Driver's License, Social Insurance, or Tax ID number, the new service address, and the connection date, but if you're already an existing FPL customer,  the disconnection date (old address), re-connection date,  and complete service address will suffice.

A deposit of $25 (minimum) and other initial set-up fees may be charged upfront, whether you're a new or existing customer.

Meanwhile, for natural gas service, check with  TECO Peoples Gas  or   Florida City Gas (FCG)  — once you've confirmed availability, just submit the necessary IDs and connection date (new customer) or advise disconnection date, the complete address of your new home, and your preferred service transfer date (existing customer).

Note that deposit fees may be based on your home's square footage or equal to twice the average monthly bill, and you may need to settle a connection fee before service connection.

Lastly, check for water and sewer availability at your new address on the  Miami-Dade Water & Sewer  website.

Once confirmed, new customers must create an online account and deposit $50 for water, $50 for sewer, and a non-refundable $45 connection fee, and existing owners must also settle any outstanding balance before service transfer.

     (2)

A Fast Internet For Your Fast-Paced Lifestyle: Spicing Up Your Home With Cable And Internet

Achieve a cutting-edge home to match your fast-paced Downtown Miami lifestyle with reliable, crazy-fast internet!

Not only will you never have to lose touch with your loved ones back home, but you can also turn your Downtown Miami abode into a Smart Home with a high-speed internet connection!

And while you're at it, get yourself a cable service to stay in the loop on local news, current events, and your favorite TV show!

Looking for the best internet-cable bundles around?

Take a peek at  Comcast Xfinity's  and   AT&T's  newest promos!

Once you've picked a bundle, apply for new service by submitting your complete address and proper IDs online or in person at the nearest store, or if you're an existing Comcast or AT&T customer, request for a service transfer as soon as you settle any remaining balance on your account!

Heads up — you may have to settle deposits, activation/installation, and equipment rental fees upfront, or it may reflect on the first bill.

     (3)

Commuting In Style: Your "All-Access Pass" To The Great Florida Roads

Celebrate your BIG move to Downtown Miami by getting a Florida driver's license!

Aside from being one of the quickest IDs to secure, your Florida driver's license is a REQUIREMENT within 30 days of establishing residency, and your "All-Access" pass if you want to drive around Florida without breaking the law!

To apply, visit the nearest  Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV)  or any local office offering driver's license services and submit the necessary documents.

Click on the applicable residency status to know which documents to have on hand when you apply:

    •  U.S Citizen
    • Immigrant
    • Non-Immigrant
    •  Canadian

The initial Florida Class E license, including a learner's permit, is $48.00, a commercial driver's license (Class A) is $75.00, and an ID Card fee is $25.00.

For a complete list of driver's license fees,  click here.

Drivers with current or previous driver's licenses from another state, country, or jurisdiction may be allowed to forego mandatory Drug and Alcohol courses, the Class E Knowledge exam, and the Florida Driving test, but the Vision and Hearing test is still a MUST.

If you already have an existing Florida driver's license, notify the DMV of your new address to get an updated driver's license and avoid any trouble while on the road!

And don't forget to get insurance to title and register your vehicle(s) within ten (10) days of establishing residency!

     (4)

Guiding Future Generations: A Sneak Peek Of Downtown Miami's Best Schools

Next on the list is the search for the best Downtown Miami school for your little one!

And boy, does this city have a lot!

In fact, thanks to its central location, some of Miami's best educational institutions are in Downtown Miami!

Add in Brickell's own collection of charter, public, and private schools, and your child will be set 'til grad school!

Jokes aside, you're looking at top schools like Downtown Miami Charter School, DelCampo International School, Southside Preparatory Academy, iPrep Academy, and more!

To know more about the schools in and around Downtown Miami, visit our blog,  Schools in Downtown Miam i , or visit the  Miami-Dade County Public Schools  website to check for public schools near your home!

Meanwhile, if you're looking for childcare during work hours, check  Daycares in Downtown Miami  to find out your options!

     (5)

Strengthening  The Pulse Of The City: Getting A Voter Registration In Downtown Miami

Are you over 18, a United States citizen who meets all the requirements, and wants a voice that matters within your new community, but an unregistered voter?

Let's take care of that, shall we?

If you're moving to Downtown Miami and are looking to be a registered voter, submit your application with the proper IDs and documents through the  Florida Department of State  or the  Miami-Dade County Elections Department  online, by mail, or in person at the Elections Department or any Elections Branch office!

Any current and valid identification with a photograph and signature (e.g., Florida Driver's License, United States passport, etc.) should be enough to approve your registration!

Downtown Miami But Better: Enhancing The Beauty Of Miami's Core Through Recycling And Waste Management

The City of Downtown Miami, despite being Miami's urban core, has always been revered for its spotless roads and avenues, clean surroundings, and well-maintained parks and green spaces.

Of course, this wouldn't be possible without the effort of the local governance and the whole Downtown Miami community!

So, as soon as you join this esteemed neighborhood, take the time to familiarize yourself with Downtown Miami's rules and regulations, including the established recycling and waste collection management.

To give you an idea, here's the current solid waste, "bulky" garbage, and recyclables schedules:

    •  Garbage & Trash collection (twice a week)
    • Free recycling collection every other week
    •  "Bulky" trash collection (once a week)

Failure to follow these waste management codes will result in a $500 fine or arrest.

For more information about schedules and fees, visit the   City of Miami Solid Waste Department  website.

Do your duty as an honorary citizen of Miami — keep Downtown Miami clean and green at ALL TIMES!
