Secure a "seat" inside enchanting Buena Vista, a chic Metro Miami neighborhood effortlessly combining historical charm with the pulse of modern urban living, offering a community-centric paradise with the PERFECT blend of HIP and HERITAGE in the heart of Miami City!

Amidst magnificent Banyan and Ficus trees, lush tropical foliage, and some of the oldest homes in Miami is the charming community of Buena Vista, a tiny urban sanctuary nestled south of Little Haiti, north of the Miami Design District, and a stone's throw away from Wynwood.

Despite its proximity to Miami's urban center, Buena Vista provides locals an escape from the bustle of city living due to its dense suburban vibe, with its nature-rich parks, lavish green spaces, homegrown eats, and peaceful, Caribbean-inspired appeal — a whole world of its own while being moments away from everything that makes up a signature Miami travel experience.

The perfect place to call HOME, especially if you're looking to settle into a quiet city life without scrimping on creature comforts, world-class amenities, and the occasional shopping and dining splurges!

So, if you're moving to Buena Vista soon, congratulations!

With Buena Vista's leafy streets, diverse architecture, and community-centric energy, undoubtedly, you've made the BEST choice, and it'll only be a matter of time before you transition to Buena Vista's unique, modern-slash-vintage way of living!

But before all else, let's cover the ESSENTIALS, shall we?

Here are 7 things you need to do IMMEDIATELY when moving to Buena Vista.

     (1)

The FIRST of Firsts: Cozying Up Your Buena Vista Home

While we all have different priorities when moving to a new home, only one thing remains at the TOP of every "to-do" list — the utilities, specifically electricity and water!

Yes, folks, everyone needs running water and the warmth of the electricity to survive, and if you're looking to get your Buena Vista utilities sorted the soonest, read on and have your new home running in NO TIME!

To apply for electricity, visit the  Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) website  and create or log into your existing account to request a new or transfer of service to your Buena Vista address.

New service owners must supplement their application with proper IDs (Social Security, Driver's License, Social Insurance, or Tax ID number), the complete service address, and the connection date.

Meanwhile, existing FLP consumers only need to advise the date of disconnection (old address), the date of re-connection, and the complete address of the new home!

Further, new and existing FPL patrons may need to pay a deposit of $25 (minimum) and initial set-up fees before the start of service.

For natural gas services, look to  TECO Peoples Gas  or  Florida City Gas (FCG) !

Upon confirming service availability at the new address, new customers must submit the necessary IDs and date of connection through their newly created online account.

On the other hand, existing TECO and FCG customers only need to advise the date of disconnection (old address), the date of re-connection, and the new address.

Side note — you may be charged deposit fees based on your home's square footage and equal to twice the average monthly bill, alongside a connection fee, before service starts.

Lastly, check for water and sewer availability at your new address on the  Miami-Dade Water & Sewer website !

If services are available, new customers must create an online account and deposit $50 for water, $50 for sewer, and a non-refundable $45 connection fee.

If you're an existing customer, settle any outstanding balance on your account before the selected transfer date.

     (2)

The Homebody Essentials: Finding The Best Cable and Internet Package For Your New Abode

Are you working from home or just love binge-watching your favorite TV show?

If your answer is "Yes" to BOTH, then getting a reliable internet and cable service provider should be your utmost priority (at least, aside from your utilities!).

For some of the most competitive internet-cable bundles around, choose from providers like  Comcast Xfinity  and  AT&T !

Once you've selected your preferred option, submit your application online or in person at the nearest store, along with the necessary IDs and your complete address.

Meanwhile, if you have an existing Comcast and AT&T account, you can have your services transferred to your new address as long as you settle any remaining balance on your account before the move!

Stay informed — any deposits, installation, and equipment rental fees may be charged upfront or on your first bill.

     (3)

A Florida Must-Have: Acquiring Your Florida Driver's License

Save yourself from the hassles of commuting and public transportation by getting your very own Florida driver's license!

If you're moving to Buena Vista with an existing Florida driver's license, notify the DMV of your new address to get an updated driver's license — yes, it's THAT easy!

But, if you're from a different state, you'll need to apply for a Florida driver's license to be able to drive on Florida roads and as a REQUIREMENT within 30 days of establishing residency!

To get your application started, visit the nearest  Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV)  or any local office offering driver's license services and submit the necessary documents.

If you have a current or previous driver's license from another state, country, or jurisdiction, you may not have to take the Drug and Alcohol courses, Class E Knowledge exam, and Florida Driving test, but the Vision and Hearing test is a requisite.

Aside from your license, you'll need to get insurance to title and register your vehicle(s), too, and you'll need to accomplish this within ten (10) days of establishing residency.

For more information on the necessary documents to have on hand, click on the applicable residency status:

    •  U.S Citizen
    • Immigrant
    • Non-Immigrant
    •  Canadian

     (4)

The ULTIMATE Ticket To An Empowered Mind: Exploring The Best Schools Of Buena Vista

For families moving to a new city, the first thing that may come to mind is finding the best school to transfer their kids to, and sometimes, the task can become quite challenging, especially if you're working with a pretty limited set of options!

In Buena Vista, however, this problem is non-existent because some of Miami's TOP schools are right within your fingertips!

Surrounded by a number of top-rated Miami schools, Buena Vista boasts proximity to schools like Shadowlawn Elementary School, The Cushman School, Morningside K-8 Academy, Mater Academy of International Studies, and more — yes, the cream of the crop!

So, if you'd like more information about the primary, secondary, and senior high schools near your home, read our blog,  Schools In and Around Buena Vista , to make an informed decision!

Alternatively, you can also click on the  Miami-Dade County Public Schools website  for public schools around Buena Vista!

Need childcare assistance while you're at work?

Click  Daycares in Buena Vista  and choose the BEST option for your little one!

     (5)

Weaving Through The Fabric Of The Community: How To Become A Registered Voter In Buena Vista

Are you over 18, a United States citizen, and moving to Buena Vista WITHOUT a voter's registration?

Establish your voice within the community, Miami, and the whole country by exercising your RIGHT to vote!

All you need to do is submit your application with the proper IDs and documents through the  Florida Department of State  or the  Miami-Dade County Elections Department  online, by mail, or in person at the Elections Department or any Elections Branch office!

A Florida Driver's License, United States passport, or any current and valid identification with a photograph and signature will do to get your application approved (unless you fail to meet a different requirement, that is).

     (6)

Embracing Buena Vista's Green Initiatives: The "Hows" Of Keeping Buena Vista Clean And Pristine

Are you raring to be an honorary member of Buena Vista's prestigious community?

If you are, show them your unwavering support by embracing and upholding Buena Vista's Green Initiatives!

Preserve the beauty of Buena Vista by familiarizing yourself with the  City of Miami Solid Waste Department 's waste collection and recycling management schedules.

As established, residential garbage is collected twice a week, the free recycling collection happens every other week, and "bulky" trash collection will be collected once a week.

All waste management violations will result in a $500 fine or an arrest, so be in the loop of any updates and ALWAYS follow the rules!

Remember, the cleanliness and beauty of Buena Vista is in YOUR hands!

     (7)

A Hidden Gem Re-Imagined: Getting To Know The "Ins And Outs" of Buena Vista

So, you're already done moving your stuff inside your new Buena Vista home, but have you taken the time to get to know this magical city?

If you haven't, put your shoes on and start the grand exploration!

Delve into local art galleries and boutiques, or tickle your tastebuds with the local and global culinary offerings from your neighborhood eateries and cafes — and once you've filled up your tummies, give the Upper Buena Vista Mall a run-down and start piling unique finds onto your shopping carts!
