Tiny yet firmly established, with a name that rarely enters daily conversation, Coral Gate reflects a version of early Miami without the spotlight and one of its first planned subdivisions.

Developed in the late 1940s and officially designated as part of the city's earliest planned residential neighborhoods in 1948, Coral Gate is a quaint residential pocket comprising single-family homes and a relatively serene, suburban-like atmosphere, despite its central location along Coral Way, a road established by Coral Gables founder George E. Merrick during the 1920s.

Coral Gate spans roughly a quarter square mile, just south of SW 16th Street, east of SW 37th Avenue, north of Coral Way, and west of SW 32nd Avenue, bordering Coral Gables to the west and Golden Pines to the south.

It is home to approximately 3,470 residents as of the latest US Census.

Would you believe that many Miami natives and lifers don't know Coral Gate exists, even being just a street away from Coral Gables?

Offering a quiet city lifestyle with prime access to essential establishments, major roads, and stunning panoramic views of Coral Gables and the Miami skyline, this tiny residential pocket is, indeed, one of Magic City's greatest geographic mysteries — a historic neighborhood many locals pass through without realizing it has a name.

And you know? That isn't such a bad thing for the residents of Coral Gate, especially if being "under-the-radar" means they can hold onto home values that haven't been inflated by hype and a location that's plugged into multiple parts of Miami at once, including Coral Gables, Little Havana, and central Miami.

Imagine stepping outside your doorstep and being within walking distance of Miracle Mile, where half a mile of shops, boutiques, art galleries, and over 70 international cuisines are waiting — farmer's market events and yearly festivals, too, depending on when you drop by.

Since Coral Gables is only a street away, Coral Gate is privy to most, if not all, of its conveniences, including shopping spots like Miracle Marketplace, Shops at Merrick Park, and multiple Publix and Winn-Dixie locations.

Parks? You have a few just right around the corner, such as Coral Gate Park, a compact recreational hub with a playground, sports courts, and a baseball diamond, and Phillips Park with the same amenities.

Meanwhile, history buffs can always go on a quick drive to the Coral Gables Museum, Merrick House, and the Venetian Pool, or go east to Little Havana and check out the murals, Bay of Pigs Museum & Library, and Calle Ocho.

From that point, you'll have so much to do and too many places to visit that you won't be able to follow your schedule even if you wanted to — and that's just two neighborhoods.

We hope you didn't forget that Coral Gate may as well be at the heart of Miami, seeing as how it's only minutes away from a couple of other popular cities and communities, including South Miami, Brickell, and Coconut Grove.

It's safe to say, your adventure has just begun.

Led by an active Coral Gate Homeowners Association (CGHA), formed in 1986 to maintain its unique character and reputation as an esteemed single-family neighborhood, Coral Gate became not only one of Miami's first planned subdivisions but also its first Neighborhood Conservation District in July 2002.

And we don't know about you, but we think they've done a pretty good job!

Here, you'll find a predominantly detached residential area comprising mid-sized properties, most in the same late 1940s-1950s three-bedroom layout, with yards and garages.

Yet despite being planned and having a "gate" in its name, Coral Gate is not as uniformly developed as it used to be.

Over the years, some homes have undergone extensive renovations, upgrades, and even total rebuilding from the ground up, so there's now a lot more variety and a wider selection of styles within the perimeter.

Prices for these properties span a range that mirrors Coral Gate's architectural mix, with older houses in their original character typically in the $800,000–$900,000 range, while modernized and renovated properties can climb well into the seven figures.

Mind you, you're not just paying for the extra space, luxurious zip code, and easy access to some of Miami's top tourist attractions.

Walled and partially barricaded, with only four primary points of entry into the neighborhood, traffic in Coral Gate tends to be limited to residents, deliveries, and guests, which keeps its winding, tree-lined streets notably calm, reinforced by rotundas and speed bumps that slow vehicles down.

Then, there's Coral Gate's proximity to schools, hospitals, and daily necessities.

We're talking multiple Publix and Winn-Dixie locations, Walgreens for your pharmacy needs, and top-ranking schools like Coral Gables Prep Academy, Ponce De Leon Middle, Coral Gables Senior High — and that's only in one direction.

Since Coral Gate is near other Miami locales, residents enjoy a wider reach than its compact footprint suggests — and not just by car, by the way.

You can skip the drive altogether and rely on public transportation, with several Metrobus routes running along Coral Way and Douglas Road, along with Metrorail stations for trips into Downtown, Brickell, Coconut Grove, and beyond.

Convenient and well-connected are understatements, indeed!

If you're drawn to privacy, structure, and location, Coral Gate is the neighborhood you've been looking for.

Compact and bearing a serene, suburban-inspired atmosphere, it sits surrounded by some of Miami's most established and high-energy communities, yet remains distinctly its own—defined by planning, consistency, and a flexible pace that accommodates career-driven homeowners, families, and empty-nesters alike.

Coral Gate represents a foundational chapter of Miami's residential growth—one that continues to be carefully preserved by those who call it home.

And if you'd like to be one of them, there's no better time than now.
