Activate walk-o'clock with your favorite tail-powered sidekick, and head out to explore the shaded streets and nearby parks of El Portal, a leafy Miami village along the bustling avenues of the metro.

Cue the paw-parazzi and rally your four-legged co-pilot to the canopied sidewalks, green pockets, and pet-friendly corners surrounding El Portal, a tiny village that celebrates nature, history, and opportunity.

Nestled between Miami Shores, Little River, and Biscayne Boulevard, El Portal features tree-lined streets, distinctive homes, and a pace that moves slower than its surroundings — in the best way.

But for dog owners, that's only part of the appeal.

Thanks to El Portal's rare balance of tranquility and proximity to the city, you're close to some of the area's most dog-friendly parks, where open lawns, shaded paths, and room to roam make every outing a win for both pets and their people.

Leash up, head out, and let the exploring begin — paws, parks, and plenty of fresh air await.

Here are the dog-friendly parks near El Portal.

1) Military Trail Park (Top-Pick!)

825 NE 89th St, Miami, FL 33138

Sitting right on the shore's edge is the Military Trail Park, a grassy, expansive park with winding footpaths, benches, and a fenced-off dog area just 4 minutes from El Portal.

The park is a bustling and blooming area with tall trees, a gorgeous grassy lawn, trails, and a small gravel parking area on the south side, which is connected to a dedicated dog park by a paved pathway.

At the dog park, you'll find separate areas for large and small dogs, with grass terrain and shade.

Dog owners will have to pass through a double-gated entrance into the park.

Dog park amenities include benches, a 5-foot high chainlink fence, a water fountain for humans, kids, and dogs, cleanup stations, and trash bins for use.

Meanwhile, at Military Trail Park, dogs on leashes can explore its entirety, where you can enjoy a shaded playground, picnic tables, a .4-mile trail made from concrete, benches, and water fountains near the play area.

It's a great area to walk around in a loop to get away from the active dog center of the park.

Don't forget to bring a leash!

2) Manatee Bend Park

465 NE 77th Street Rd, Miami, FL 33138

On the banks of the historic Little River, wedged up against the bustling neighborhood of Miami Ironside, sits a patch of grass where you can lie about and let your dog run around near El Portal.

Welcome to Manatee Bend Park, a 1.2-acre park with open green spaces and fields right on the river, with tall trees that cover more than half of it under shade, located just 5 minutes away.

Here, dog lovers and their pups can stroll its small, partly-shaded looping concrete trail, perimeter sidewalk, and a concrete trail that follows along the river's edge.

It offers benches along the edge of the grass and a rocky shore that descends into the water.

One of the best features of this park is the fact that you can view manatees at this park.

With picnic tables and benches available, there is plenty of room to sit and relax on the shore, where you can view hordes of sea cows relaxing in the water.

Due to this, doggie visitors must remain on a leash while at Manatee Bend Park.

3) Lemon City Park

27 NE 58TH ST, Miami, FL 33130

Welcome to Lemon City Park, a solid choice for some exercise/walkathon sessions with your dog under a bit of sunshine, just 7 minutes from El Portal.

This neighborhood park has plenty of space to move around—wide-open greens, a basketball court, shaded sitting areas, and a full rec center.

Here, families often gather after school for youth programs or laid-back outdoor time, and the lake view gives it a peaceful, tucked-away feel.

Dogs are welcome on a leash, so bring yours along for a walk, a sniff, or just to soak in the breeze beneath the trees.

4) Eaton Park

460 NE 61st St, Miami, FL 33137

Need a quick place to let your dog sniff, stroll, or sit in the shade? Eaton Park gives you the perfect spot sans the exhausting commute, just 7 minutes from El Portal.

This compact Upper East Side park includes a basketball court, a multipurpose lawn, picnic tables, and a few shaded corners to catch your breath.

It's a practical stop if you're looking for a clean, leash-friendly space between errands—or just somewhere to get some fresh air with your four-legged sidekick.

5) Belle Meade Mini Park

775 NE 77th St, Miami, FL 33138

The park has plenty of shade and room for the kids and Fido to play, boasting barbecue pits for your impromptu outdoor family lunches, picnic tables and benches to eat or sit on, and a vast shaded playground that your kids will love.

And good news for dog owners, Belle Meade Mini Park also has a dedicated dog park within its premises, with a fenced area for off-leash fun.

However, the rest of the park requires dogs to be leashed at all times.

Don't forget to bring water and a leash for your dog when you visit!

6) Pullman Mini Park

24 NW 49 ST, Miami, FL 33127

Tucked into a residential block in Little Haiti, Pullman Mini Park is where neighbors gather, and dogs get their wiggles out, just 8 minutes from El Portal.

Here, shaded picnic tables, barbecue grills, and a playground make it a family-friendly pitstop, while the soccer goal and open lawn offer a bit of space to stretch your legs.

Leashed dogs are welcome throughout the park, and the mature trees provide a nice break from the Miami heat while your Fido explores.

7) Biscayne Shores and Gardens Park (Top-Pick!)

The park has more than 6 acres of green space and shade to play in, with ample parking in the southeast corner.

Once in the parking area, you and your leashed pup can enjoy a newly paved looping trail that travels through the park and connects shaded sitting areas.

Biscayne Shores and Gardens Park also has some great dog-friendly amenities, like dog-sized water fountains, clean-up stations, benches and picnic tables, and trash bins.

You'll find large shade trees, open fields, a community garden, and a small playground at the park's center.

A vast park only an 8-minute drive from El Portal, Legion Park is home to the famous Legion Dog Park, where you can bring Fido for an off-leash adventure in Miami.

At Legion Park, you'll have seven acres of open spaces for your pup to explore-- on a leash.

The park also has picnic tables & barbecue areas, a boat ramp, outdoor gym equipment, a kiddie playground, and a dedicated dog park with a drinking fountain where your dog can enjoy free play with its furry pals.

Best of all, Legion Park is on the waterfront, which sets the mood altogether!

With picnic tables, a playground, a basketball court, and a rec center, it's a solid spot for families, solo visitors, and yes, dog parents, too.

You'll find locals stopping by for a short morning walk or lingering after school programs let out, enjoying the laid-back energy the park naturally brings.

Remember, dogs are welcome here, but only if leashed, so bring yours along with a little extra water and a few cleanup bags.

10) Morningside Park (Top-Pick!)

750 NE 55th Terrace, Miami, FL 33137

Situated in nearby Morningside, located north of Downtown Miami and within the general Upper East Side area, Morningside Park is another dog-friendly park you can visit when in El Portal, just 10 minutes away.

The cozy park near Biscayne Bay is brimming with activities for all ages, including facilities like basketball and tennis courts, a swimming pool, a football field, a boat rental, and designated picnic areas.

It also offers kayak rentals, sailing water sports on weekends, and children's camps during summer, winter, and spring.

For a relatively small fee, sailboat rentals are available, on which you can make entertaining cruises around Biscayne.

And the good news?

You can share this paw-some moment with your furry companion since Morningside Park allows dogs on leashes!

You won't even notice the park is from another city since it's so close to El Portal!

11) Baywood Park

496 NE 71st St., Miami, FL 33138

A small but lovely park in the Upper Eastside neighborhood of the Bayside Historic District, Baywood Park is a straightforward nature spot loved by locals and dog owners alike, just 10 minutes from El Portal.
