What's new in Biscayne Park?

I've all the juicy "deets" for anyone who wants to know!

Tucked beneath a leafy canopy between North Miami and Miami Shores, Biscayne Park trades glitz for greenery to become one of Miami's last "true" villages, where the streets are quiet, the homes have stories, and the biggest daily drama is a peacock in your driveway.

But in 2025, this suburban slice isn't just staying charmingit's stirring things up.

We're talking park overhauls next door, medical centers on the rise, restaurant openings that deserve a detour, and even tree-related sagas that got the whole village talking.

This hidden gem may not make splashy headlines — but trust us, there's plenty to catch up on.

Here are 6 things new to watch for in Biscayne Park.

The Pines, the Birds & the Backlash: Biscayne Park's Tree Drama Sprouts a New Law

Where: Biscayne Park

When: January – Spring 2025

Did you know that one toppled tree in January kicked off a full-blown forest feud?

The said tree incident led to the Village giving the green light to remove 37 Australian pines due to safety concerns.

By February, 29 were already down alongside several active bird nests.

Cue the bird-loving backlash — Biscayne Park is, after all, a designated bird sanctuary.

Residents cried foul (literally), especially after reports of displaced yellow-crowned night herons, and the uproar pushed the Village to draft a new ordinance, which only stirred the pot more.

The proposal gives the Village Manager broad authority to chop without consulting residents or wildlife experts, so locals are now calling for transparency, joint meetings, and a tree policy that doesn't feel like a napkin scribble.

Remember, this is Biscayne Park — cutting trees without a good reason is how you ruffle every feather in town!

More updates about this drama as they come!

Biscayne Park — Chapter II: Plot Holes & Pool Dreams

Where: Ed Burke Recreation Center + Village Hall

When: Late 2024 – Spring 2025

First, let's talk about the library saga.

In a move that raised more eyebrows than overdue fines, the Biscayne Park Foundation quietly removed 300–400 donated books from the Ed Burke Recreation Center without Village approval, leading to bare shelves and unhappy residents.

By early 2025, the book drive kicked off, with commissioners and neighbors restocking the community library with personal donations and an Amazon wish list amounting to 100 titles (and counting), from children's literature to adult fiction.

Still, some locals are wondering why they trashed the old collection in the first place.

Meanwhile, another recreation debate made a splash — or didn't.

The Village floated a $30K-a-year proposal to give residents access to the Miami Shores Aquatic Center, and they received a lukewarm reaction.

Many questioned why Biscayne Park was investing in someone else's pool instead of fixing up its own spaces, so the plan was shelved during budget talks, at least for now.

As it turns out, in Biscayne Park, even books and pool passes come with plot twists.

Coming Soon (or Not): Projects That Could Shape Biscayne Park Life

Where: North Miami & Miami Shores

When: Spring 2025 and ongoing

Biscayne Park may be small, but what's happening just beyond its borders could ripple right through it.

First up, the glow-up of Cagni Park North (NE 135th St)

In April 2025, construction started to provide Cagni Park with a brand-new aquatic center, multipurpose field, ADA-friendly walking paths, and additional parking, which are scheduled to open by mid-2026.

The upgrade will be a win for families in and around Biscayne Park, especially if you frequent this hangout.

Unfortunately, not all nearby projects are smooth sailing.

In Miami Shores, Barry University's (11300 NE 2nd Ave) attempt to sell 24 acres for a 277-unit Lennar townhouse development has hit another wall.

Despite promises of a public park, school expansions, and tax revenue, the Planning & Zoning Board keeps putting the brakes on due to density and zoning issues.

If the deal goes through, we can expect changes to property values, school capacity, and traffic patterns, all of which land right on Biscayne Park's doorstep.

In other words, fewer cross-country treks and more checkups that don't hijack your day.

For Biscayne Park residents, it's a long-overdue convenience play that will finally bring top-tier care closer to home.

Forks Up, Park People! Meet the Two New Spots Worth the Quick Drive

Where: North Miami

When: Early 2025

Good news for Biscayne Park locals craving something new on the plate — 2025 brought two fresh flavors just minutes from the village, and they're serving everything DELICIOUS.

Cotoa (12475 NE 6th Ct), a Michelin-recognized Ecuadorian fine dining restaurant, has moved from Downtown Miami to a sleek new home in North Miami.

Chef Alejandra Espinoza, the chef behind the wheel, dishes out volcanic-level creativity, like banana-leaf-wrapped fish, coffee-marinated mains, and a lava cake tribute to Cotopaxi.

Yes, it's as extra as it sounds in the best way possible!

Prefer things casual and comforting? Say hello to Lakay Food Spot(12325 NE 6th Ave), where crispy griot, fried plantains, and seasoned seafood stews bring Haitian home cooking into full view.

No frills, no fuss — just soul in every bite.

Both newcomers are well within taste bud range, and even if they aren't, when the food's that good, you won't mind crossing a few intersections.

Game, Set, Match… and Smoothie?

Where: 15055 Biscayne Blvd, North Miami, FL 33181

When: February 2025

If your weekend routine needs a little more cardio and a lot more cool factor, you'll be happy to know that Reserve Padel just landed in your radius, ready to rally!

Opened in February 2025, the 100,000-square-foot sports and wellness playground, part of SoLé Mia, is already drawing locals from Biscayne Park and beyond.

Inside, you'll find ten pro-level padel courts, two pickleball courts, a state-of-the-art gym, spa, cold plunge, and — because we all know it's half the reason we show up — a new Pura Vida café to refuel and reset.

Whether you're booking a court, browsing gear, or grabbing a smoothie and people-watching, Reserve Padel is a scene.

And the best part is that it's less than ten minutes from the Park.

Game on.
