    First stop: Powering up with  Florida Power & Light (FPL).  

    Jump online, create an account (or dust off your old one), and get that electricity flowing! 

    New to FPL? They'll need some form of identification like Social Security, Driver's License, Social Insurance or Tax ID number, your new 'digs info, and the connection date.

    If you're already part of the FPL family, you only need to update your move dates and new address.

    Don't forget to set aside at least $25 for the deposit, plus some extra for setup fees.

    Next up:  Florida City Gas (FCG) . for all your natural gas needs. 

    Check if they serve your area, then either sign up as a newbie or transfer your existing service. 

    Heads up: deposits might depend on your home's size or typical usage, and there's a connection fee to tackle before you can fire up that stove.

    Last but not least:  Miami-Dade Water & Sewer  — hop onto their website, set up your account, and prepare to splash $50 for water, $50 for sewer, and a non-refundable $45 connection fee.

    Already a customer? Make sure your account's squeaky clean before transferring.

    And voila! Your West Kendall pad is primed and ready for your grand entrance.

    Now that we've entered an "always-online" world, getting your internet and cable sorted is as crucial as having a comfy couch - especially if you're keeping in touch with far-flung friends and family!

    So, if you're looking for a solid connection in West Kendall,  Comcast Xfinity  and  AT&T  are your go-to guys.

    First things first: take stock of your household's digital appetite. 

    Are your family members casual browsers or hardcore streamers? 

    Once you've got that figured out, it's time to get the ball rolling — head online or pop into your nearest service center with your address and ID in hand. 

    If you're already an Xfinity or AT&T member, make sure your account's squeaky clean before you hit that transfer button.

    Pro tip: Don't hesitate to ask for the nitty-gritty on deposits, activation fees, and equipment rental costs. 

    Trust us, your future self will thank you when that first bill rolls in without any jaw-dropping surprises!

     Getting The "Green" Light: Your First West Kendall ID

    If you didn't already know, the easiest ID to snag is a Florida driver's license, especially if you're from another state or country. 

    Not only is it a legal must within 30 days of establishing residency, but it also gets you road-ready for all your Florida adventures — road-ready and legal, if you didn't catch our drift!

    So, if you're sans one, get yours at the nearest  Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV).  

    Depending on your residency status, bring the necessary documents:

    •  U.S Citizen   
    • Immigrant 
    • Non-Immigrant
    •  Canadian 

    Fees are pretty straightforward: $48 for an initial Class E license, $75 for a commercial license (Class A), and $25 for an ID card.

    If you already have a license from elsewhere, you might skip the Drug and Alcohol courses and Class E Knowledge exams, but the Vision and Hearing test is still a go!

    Already have a Florida driver's license? 

    Just notify the DMV of your new address to update your ID, and don't forget to get insurance to title and register your vehicle within ten (10) days of moving. 

    Now you're all set to cruise around West Kendall!

    Think Dr. Manuel C. Barreiro Elementary, Ben Gamla Charter School, Calusa Preparatory School, and Terra Environmental Research Institute, to name a few.

    Add nearby communities like Kendall and The Hammocks, and you'll have an overflowing basket of choices!

     Trash Talk: How to Keep West Kendall Clean and Green  

    Being a stellar West Kendall citizen means supporting your community's future-forward efforts, including those that keep and enhance Mother Nature's beauty, a.k.a., West Kendall's green initiatives, including proper waste disposal and recycling. 

    If you think about it, no one wants to tarnish West Kendall's reputation as an eco-friendly community, right? 

    Plus, following the rules helps you avoid fines and legal trouble.

     Here's the lowdown on waste management in West Kendall: 

    •  Residential Garbage Collection: Twice a week (schedule varies by area) 
    • Recycling Collection: Once every two (2) weeks. 
    •  "Bulky" Trash Collection: Two (2) bulky waste pickups per year, each up to 25 cubic yards, scheduled in advance, either online or by calling 311. 

    To keep everything running smoothly, place your green waste cart at the curb by 7 a.m. on your scheduled pickup day, ensuring the cart is within three (3) feet of the street and at least five (5) feet from mailboxes, parked cars, or other obstacles. 

    Your cart's lid must be closed for collection purposes. 

    Meanwhile, furniture and appliances should not be placed in your green waste cart but taken to a  Neighborhood Trash and Recycling Center  or scheduled as a bulky waste pickup.
