Immerse smoothly and stress-free into the premium suburban lifestyle that awaits in North Miami, a thriving residential paradise hailed as Miami-Dade County's "City of Progress!"

Traverse Miami-Dade's northeastern section to find the proud city of North Miami, also known to locals as "NoMi," a first-class suburb with a premier location in the heart of the Tri-County region, covering 10.5 square miles between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, near the cities of Golden Glades, Westview, Sunny Isles Beach, North Miami Beach, Bay Harbor Islands, and the unincorporated community of Pinewood.

While North Miami isn't the first destination you'll find on most tourists' bucket lists, the same can't be said for homebuyers looking for an affordable home near the best of South Florida, from its natural beauty to a plethora of amenities and recreation — indoor or outdoor!

In fact, North Miami boasts a select collection of residential properties ranging from rentals to single-family homes, townhouses, and condos you can own, making it one of South Florida's best family-friendly communities on the water — one that won't break the bank!

So, if you're looking into residing in North Miami or are already relocating to this world-class suburb, start planning a smooth transition into NoMi's sought-after lifestyle through this guide, where we tackle the "ins and outs" of moving into North Miami!

Here are 7 things you need to do IMMEDIATELY when moving to North Miami.

(1)

Getting Your North Miami Home Up And Running — The Three Essential Services You NEED!

Are you ready for your big North Miami move?

To start your relocation, apply for these three essential utilities — electricity, water, and natural gas service — to get your new address up and running!

It's as easy as 1,2,3!

For electricity, create or log in to your existing account at the Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) website and apply for service at your new address.

New account holders need to submit their Social Security, Driver's License, Social Insurance, or Tax ID number, the new service address, and the connection date, and existing FPL customers only need to advise the disconnection date (old address), re-connection date,  and complete service address for a service transfer.

Aside from your application, a deposit of $25 (minimum) and other initial set-up fees may be charged upfront, whether you're a new or existing customer.

Meanwhile, to set up your kitchen's natural gas service, contact TECO Peoples Gas or Florida City Gas, depending on your area.

To apply, submit the necessary IDs and connection date (new customer) or advise the disconnection date, the complete address of your new home, and your preferred service transfer date (existing customer).

Note that deposit fees may be based on the home's square footage or equal to twice the average monthly bill, and you may need to settle a connection fee before the service connection.

Last on the list is your water and sewer services.

If your property is newly built, contact the City of North Miami to activate your account for water and sewer services.

Otherwise, these two utilities should be up and running upon your relocation.

Securing Reliable North Miami Connectivity: Where To Apply For Internet And Cable Services In NoMi

Avoid losing touch with your friends, family, and the world outside North Miami by securing reliable internet and cable services for your new home!

We all know you can't live in this modern age of technology and connectivity without these two "essential" services!

To get the best packages and deals, look to service providers like Comcast Xfinity or AT&T!

Once you've determined your household's usage and entertainment needs, submit your complete address and proper IDs online or in person at the nearest Breezeline or Hotwire store, or if you're an existing customer, request a service transfer as soon as you pay any remaining balance on your account!

It's also best to ask your provider about paying deposits, activation/installation, and equipment rental fees upfront.

Otherwise, these charges may reflect on your first bill.

Assuming A North Miami Identity: Getting Your Florida Driver's License In North Miami

Do you need an ID with your new address to start your North Miami journey — paperwork, job applications, essential services, utilities, documents, and all that jazz?

Apply for a Florida driver's license!

By doing so, you're not only adhering to the state's guidelines (a Florida driver's license is a REQUIREMENT within 30 days of establishing residency), but you'll be able to drive around Florida!

To get your license, visit the nearest Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) or any local office offering driver's license services and submit the necessary documents.

Click on the applicable residency status to know which documents to have on hand when you apply:

The initial Florida Class E license, including a learner's permit, is $48.00, a commercial driver's license (Class A) is $75.00, and an ID Card fee is $25.00.

For a complete list of driver's license fees, click here.

Generally, those with a current or previous driver's license from another state, country, or jurisdiction don't have to take Drug and Alcohol courses, Class E Knowledge exams, and the Florida Driving tests, but the Vision and Hearing test is mandatory!

Meanwhile, if you have an existing Florida driver's license, notify the DMV of your relocation so the address will be updated on your ID and the system!

Also, don't forget to get insurance to title and register your vehicle(s) within ten (10) days of establishing residency.
