Boasting a forefront of glimmering high-rises, trendy new bars and restaurants, high-end shopping, vibrant nightlife, and endless business opportunities, many tourists know Brickell as a choice travel destination, yet for more than 35,000 Miamians, the "Manhattan of the South" is a prosperous residential community with just the right blend of business and pleasure!

So, if you've chosen Brickell as your next HOME, congratulations!

As you step into this unparalleled world where the pulse of city life meets the tranquility of the waterfront, you'll know you've made the PERFECT decision for your future!

It's just about transitioning into a unique, fast-paced lifestyle, and you'll find your way into the heartbeat of Miami's urban renaissance!

But first — let's talk about the ESSENTIALS!

Here are 7 things you need to do IMMEDIATELY when moving to Brickell.

(1)

"EmPOWERing" An Urban Oasis: Activating Your Brickell Electricity and Water

Are you feeling too overwhelmed with EVERYTHING you have to do before the Brickell move?

While it's best to take things one step at a time, there are two significant things you NEED to sort out before anything else — electricity and water!

To apply for electricity, visit the Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) website and create or log into your existing account to request a new or transfer of service to your Brickell address.

New service owners must submit proper IDs (Social Security, Driver's License, Social Insurance, or Tax ID number), the complete service address, and the connection date, whereas current FLP consumers only need to advise the date of disconnection (old address), the date of re-connection, and the complete address of the new home!

Please note that new and existing FPL customers may need to pay a deposit of $25 (minimum) and initial set-up fees before the start of service.

For your natural gas service, check TECO Peoples Gas or Florida City Gas (FCG)!

Once service availability at the new address is confirmed, new customers need to submit the necessary IDs and date of connection through their newly created online account.

Likewise, existing TECO and FCG customers only need to advise the date of disconnection (old address), the date of re-connection, and the new address.

You may be charged deposit fees based on your home's square footage and equal to twice the average monthly bill, alongside a connection fee, before service starts.

To complete your checklist, checking for water and sewer availability at your new address online at the Miami-Dade Water & Sewer website is a MUST.

Upon confirmation, new customers must create an online account and deposit $50 for water, $50 for sewer, and a non-refundable $45 connection fee, and existing owners are also required to settle any outstanding balance before the selected transfer date.

Reconnecting After The BIG Move: The Best Internet And Cable Providers For Your Brickell Home

Longing for the company of your loved ones back home?

While moving to a new city can bring a feeling of nostalgia, technology has made it a THOUSAND times easier to reconnect with friends and extended family, so be sure to apply for a reliable cable and internet bundle before you settle into your new Brickell home!

For the best internet-cable bundles across Miami, check Comcast Xfinity and AT&T!

Select your preferred package, apply for a new service online or in person at the nearest store, submit the necessary IDs and your complete address, and you're all set!

If you're an existing Comcast and AT&T customer, you can also request to transfer your services to the new address — just be sure to settle any remaining balance on your account before requesting the transfer!

Any deposits, activation/installation, and equipment rental fees may be charged upfront or reflected on the first bill.

Driving Around Miami: Florida Driver's License Application 101

Can't be bothered with long lines and wait times at the Metrorail and other public transportation?

Give yourself FREEDOM from a lifetime of COMMUTING by applying for a Florida driver's license!

Aside from being your "ticket" to driving on Florida roads, applying for a Florida driver's license is a must within 30 days of establishing residency, so it's like hitting two birds with one stone!

To apply, visit the nearest Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) or any local office offering driver's license services and submit the necessary documents.

Those with current or previous driver's licenses from another state, country, or jurisdiction may not have to take the mandatory Drug and Alcohol courses, Class E Knowledge exam, and Florida Driving test, but the Vision and Hearing test is a requisite.

Don't forget to get insurance to title and register your vehicle(s), too — you'll need to accomplish this within ten (10) days of establishing residency.

For more information on the necessary documents to have on hand, click on the applicable residency status:

Drivers with existing Florida driver's licenses still need to notify the DMV of their new address to get an updated driver's license — and avoid breaking the law!

Posh, stylish, and ever-progressive, Brickell has continuously won the hearts of city-loving peeps for its bustling but clean streets, world-class amenities, and deeply-rooted connection to nature despite being part of Miami's urban core.

However, it won't ALWAYS stay this way unless everyone joins hands to preserve its beauty.

So, as a newly inducted Brickellista, take one for the team and join the movement to keep Brickell CLEAN and GREEN at all times!

For starters, it's best to keep note of the City of Miami Solid Waste Department's waste collection and recycling management schedules, which are as follows:
