Step into Miami's revered "Melting Pot" of culture and community, Allapattah, an up-and-coming, working-class neighborhood boasting art, world-renowned cuisines, and multi-cultural heritage in every street and corner — Magic City's "Little Santo Domingo!"

Welcome to one of Miami's oldest communities, Allapattah, a multi-faceted, working-class district covering 4.653 square miles within the core of Miami City, lying northwest of Downtown Miami, and west of Wynwood, near the communities of Overtown, Midtown, Buena Vista, Miami Design District, and Little Havana.

Armed with an ideal "inner-city" location and a copious amount of experiences you can't find anywhere else in Miami, Allapattah has slowly risen to the ranks of the top tourist destinations in the Metro and is slated to become the next "Hot Hood" of Magic City, alongside the famous areas of Downtown Miami, Wynwood, and the Design District, thanks to its diverse array of delicious eats, contemporary art museums, and emerging nightlife scene — all influenced by a proud Latin heritage!

But of course, the significance of Allapattah within Miami extends beyond its famed tourist attractions.

Over the years, Allapattah has evolved into a diverse community with a perfect mix of residential and commercial spaces, with the growth of industries and the influx of immigrants contributing to its dynamic character.

In fact, to most Miamians,  Allapattah isn't JUST a holiday spot but a focal point for affordable housing and new developments (due to its new-found popularity), as well as a key transportation and trade hub, making it a choice residential enclave for those looking for a central and accessible position within Miami's expansive urban landscape.

So, if you've decided to move to Allapattah, congratulations!

With comprehensive research, you can SEAMLESSLY transition to your new city and confidently embark on this NEW adventure!

Here are 7 things you need to do IMMEDIATELY when moving to Allapattah.

(1)

Assembling the Basics: Getting Your Utilities Up and Running for Your Allapattah Home

A significant part of moving into a new home, or to ANY home, for that matter, is setting up the utilities, including gas, water, and electricity (the basics of human life!).

To get your Allapattah home up and running, create or log into an existing account at the Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) and pay a deposit of $25 (minimum) plus any other initial set-up fees for your electricity.

On the other hand, if you prefer a natural gas service for your home, you can apply for an account at TECO Peoples Gas or Florida City Gas (FCG) online.

The required deposit will be based on the residence's square footage, and a cash deposit equal to twice the average monthly bill and a connection fee may be required before starting your service.

Lastly, for your water and sewer services within Miami-Dade, check for availability at your new address at the Miami-Dade Water & Sewer

New customers can create an account online, and a deposit of $50 for water and $50 for sewer, as well as a non-refundable $45 fee, may be required to start the services.

Staying in the Loop After a Move: Setting up your Allapattah Internet and Cable

Moving into a new home, let alone a new city, shouldn't stop you from staying in touch with your loved ones and keeping track of your favorite TV shows and local news.

To stay in the loop upon your Allapattah move, apply for reliable connectivity with Comcast Xfinity and AT&T for your cable and internet services, either online or at the nearest store!

Please note that deposits, activation/installation, and equipment rental fees may be charged upon activation or on your first bill.

Exploring Allapattah 101: Updating Your Driver's License

If you're moving to Allapattah from another state, getting a valid Florida driver's license is a MUST within 30 days of establishing residency — that is, if you want to drive on Florida roads!

To do so, visit the nearest Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) or any local office offering driver's license services.

Upon submitting your application, you may be given a vision test, but you may also be eligible to receive a license without taking a written or road test.

Aside from securing a Florida driver's license, you'll also have to get insurance to title and register your vehicle(s) within ten (10) days of establishing residency.

The requirements for your Florida driver's license and Florida ID card will vary on residency status, so click on the applicable residency status to know which documents to have on hand when you apply:

Further, the fee for an initial Florida Class E license, including a learner's permit, is $48.00, while a commercial driver's license (Class A) is $75.00, and an ID Card fee is $25.00.
