The Deauville Beach Resort on Collins Avenue is a historic landmark in Miami Beach.
Built in the 50s, it is famous for hosting live performers like The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, and Sammy Davis Jr.
In 2017, an electrical fire broke out that forced the hotel to shut down, and it has been closed ever since.
Further damages were also caused by hurricane Irma.
Since this is Miami, this means opportunity for developers- after all, this is beachfront land we are talking about!
The Equinox Hotel & Residences will be replacing the building.
The Miami Beach Commissioners voted to move forward with a proposal by Stephen Ross, the Miami Dolphins owner, and architect Frank Gehry to replace it with twin towers.
The project will consist of a six-star hotel with 175 rooms and 150 condos.
This would be the only six-star hotel in Miami.
Rumors say the Meruelos family was asking $500 million for the 3.8-acres.
With the new towers, there will also be public benefits for the community.
There will be funding for a facility, initial funding for a housing relief fund, public beach access, and funding for arts and education in the area.
