What's new in North Miami?

I've all the juicy "deets" for anyone who wants to know!

Boasting easy access to the best destinations across South Florida, thanks to its 'sweet' location in the heart of the Tri-County region, along with several perks of its own, from premium schools and lush parks to a thriving business district, dining scene, and entertainment — indoors and outdoors, I'd say living in the suburbs isn't as dull as most think, especially in North Miami!

Now, South Florida's suburban gem is about to rock your world some more with new community enhancements, mixed-use and residential constructions, hospitals, and dining spots!

Ladies and gents, you're looking at the "City of Progress!"

Here are 6 things new to watch for in North Miami.

A New Tot Lot And More Community Enhancements Dawn On North Miami!

Where: across North Miami

Last April, a groundbreaking ceremony marked the commencement of the Lucia Martinez Gonzalez Tot Lot construction (835 NE 132nd St.), NoMi's newest tot lot at the North Miami Public Library!

Set for a grand opening in June this year, the tot lot, named in honor of Lucia Martinez Gonzalez, former NoMi Library Director, will feature state-of-the-art amenities and innovative design elements, including climbing features, new landscaping, and other fun activities for the kids!

In other parts of NoMi, more public spaces are getting their turn at "rejuvenation," too!

Breezeswept Park (12501 NE 2 Ave.) is also due for renovations, slated to finish in September, to provide new amenities that will include perimeter fencing, a new playground, sprayground, picnic shelter, basketball court, and landscaping, while the Cagni Park North Athletic Complex (13498 NE 8th Ave.) is under two phases of reconstruction to provide a new aquatic facility, multipurpose field, playground, parking, community center, sprayground, picnic shelters, and maintenance facility, due some time next year.

The North Miami Athletic Stadium (2555 NE 151 St.) will have brand-new bleachers in August, too!

THIS is the "City of Progress," peeps!

Need I say more?

NoMi Bids Farewell To An 80+ Year Old Bridge And Says Hello To A New School!

Where: across North Miami

Do you know that pedestrian bridge near NE 131st Street and NE 2nd Ave?

If you're a NoMi local, we're sure you've seen it all your life — the 131 Street Pedestrian Bridge has been a North Miami staple since the 1940s!

Word from the grapevine is that the worn-out bridge is about to be replaced with a new one, with construction to be determined.

No one's complaining, though, since 131 Street Pedestrian Bridge has been due for an upgrade for a long time, especially with a recent traffic incident!

But that's not the only thing new you need to watch for in NoMi.

In other news, the City of North Miami recently approved a new school construction project, the KIPP NoMi Campus (13855 NW 17th Ave.), which will be a three-story, 119,700 square feet charter school (K-12) for 1,456 students and 100 staff members!

Once completed, the KIPP NoMi Campus will also offer accessory recreational uses, a community garden, a three-story, 24-unit residential apartment building, and retail-commercial space totaling 2,400 square feet!

Who says you can't live, dine, shop, and work in school?

In North Miami, you will pretty soon!

Two New Restaurants Open In North Miami!

Where: across North Miami

When: Happening Now!

Where to eat this weekend?

If you're running out of options, you're in luck!

Two new restaurants just opened in NoMi, and they've got the best of Latin American cuisine in the 'hood!

In October 2023, NoMi welcomed Edan Bistro (650 NE 125th St.), the first brick-and-mortar restaurant from Spanish chef Aitor Garate Berasaluze.

At Edan Bistro, you'll journey through the Basque cuisine, with a tasting menu consisting of eight courses, an all-day menu brimming with salads, cheese boards, veggie stews, vegan delights, steaks, seafood, and more, plus a European-style Spanish brunch menu offering different light dishes, from steak sandwiches to toasts and burgers!

Talkin' Tacos (14815 Biscayne Blvd.) also opened in North Miami last March and 'wowed' patrons with all kinds of tacos, including the crowd's beloved Birria Tacos, Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos, and Caribbean Carne Tacos!

So, if you're looking to try something new this weekend, well, you've got TWO in your midst!
